The hotel business in the city is also being affected by the flooding.
Two hotels along Memorial Avenue have been closed since Monday because of flooding, and with extra people needing a place to stay, the rest of the hotels in the city are feeling the pinch.
The 50 rooms at the Super Eight Motel and the 93 rooms at the Travelodge on Memorial will both remain unavailable for at least a week.
Both of those hotels have been dealing with flooding issues that require repairs.
Some other hotel operators who spoke with Thunder Bay Television news reporters said they have been completely booked up all week, and will continue to be full for the foreseeable future.
Valhalla Inn spokesman Bill Dell said the hotel is trying hold a couple of rooms every day for those who might be displaced from their homes.
But he added that outside of holding those couple of rooms, the hotel is 100 per cent full.
Dell said local hoteliers are doing everything they can to accommodate those in need.
Hotel operators also say they are trying to conserve water by not washing sheets and towels daily.
He also commends guests for being so understanding and even wanting to help in the relief efforts.
