The Thunder Bay and District Humane Society is looking to perfect the way cats and cat-lovers are brought together.

Meet Your Match is a personality test taken by both felines and those looking to adopt a cat. The test examines personality traits of cats from the time they enter the shelter, and people looking to adopt a pet take a lifestyle survey to find out what type of cat will suit them best.

It breaks down cats into nine different categories, such as party animal or love bug.

Humane Society volunteer director Judy Decicco says Meet Your Match is designed to increase the number of cat adoptions, as well as reduce the number of cats brought back to the shelter after being adopted.

She says the program is not meant to be restrictive.

Meet Your Match was originally designed in the United States by an expert of animal behavior.

It's now being used at other shelters across the province.

A similar program is also in the works for dogs.
