THUNDER BAY -- Four days after a winter storm system knocked out power to thousands of Hydro One customers in northwestern Ontario, line crews are still doing repairs.
The Hydro One website shows that over 600 customers in the Shebandowan and Kashabowie areas won't have power restored until late Monday afternoon.
But for other customers, farther west, the wait will be even longer.
According to Hydro One, the new target for completion of repairs to all customers in the Kenora/Lake of the Woods area is Wednesday evening.
At that point, however, the number should be down to "a few," according to spokesperson Nancy Clark. Most, she said, should be back online by the end of the day on Monday.
There were still no fewer than 45 outage areas in the Lake of the Woods region alone as of mid-morning on Monday, affecting more than 1,000 customers in all.
In the immediate aftermath of the storm, there were over 150 outage areas.
Clark told tbnewswatch.com that crews have been brought in from as far as Sudbury to help with repairs.
"This was a pretty damaging storm. A lot of locations are off-road...Some of the downed wires have up to 10 trees on them. They need to remove all those trees before working on the line, so there's quite a bit of work" involved," she said.
