THUNDER BAY -- A storm system that moved through the Thunder Bay region late Thursday evening and into Friday morning took some hydro customers off the grid.

Hydro One said 3,000 of its customers outside the city were affected by only very brief outages, lasting no longer than seven minutes.

But scattered blackouts to the east, southwest and west of Thunder Bay were expected to last into Friday afternoon.

Crews were still working Friday morning to restore power to close to 50 customers in total.

The utility said the outages were all storm-related, the result of lightning strikes on equipment, damaged insulators, or trees coming into contact with power lines.
