Hydro One workers prep for four-lane work

Hydro One crews were out in full-force this past week preparing an area just West of Nipigon in anticipation for upcoming highway and bridge-work.

Hydro One crews were out in full-force this past week preparing an area just West of Nipigon in anticipation for upcoming highway and bridge-work.

The new bridge is a major project included in the four-laning plans for Highway 11-17 between Nipigon and Thunder Bay.

The existing hydro lines will eventually have to be moved to accommodate the new development, so crews were seen clearing trees and brush around the area.

The new bridge spanning over the Nipigon River will be the first of its kind in Ontario. The Ministry of Transportation opted for a suspension bridge because of environmental concerns for the river.

Mayor of Nipigon, Richard Harvey is pleased with the development of the area.

Mayor Harvey expects work on the bridge to begin this coming spring.
