THUNDER BAY -- Good news, hydro rates for residential customers could be going down.

The bad news though is bills could still be going up next year.

Thunder Bay Hydro has applied to the Ontario Energy Board for a 1.3 per cent decrease citing both regulatory and distribution costs it expects next year.

If approved, that rate would go into effect in May 2016.

But with the Ontario Clean Energy Benefit expiring in January, bills are expected to climb by around 10 per cent.

In a media release Thunder Bay Hydro said some of that jump would be offset by the removal of the Debt Retirement Charge.
