THUNDER BAY — Since launching their monthly 50/50 draw last December, the Friends of the Thunder Bay Public Library have now awarded over $200,000 in cash prizes.
The latest recipient is Liliane Perreault of Shuniah, who's claimed a jackpot just short of $30,000.
"I was so surprised when I got the call...I didn't believe it was true. I never win anything," Perreault said.
She plans to use her winnings to catch up on some bills.
"It'll be nice to get some breathing room. Plus, I'll have to take my husband out for a nice dinner," she commented.
Proceeds from the lottery are going toward a major renovation at the Waverley location.
"That's all about creating safe, inclusive and welcoming spaces for families and kids in our community," said Fran Duke, president of the Friends of the Public Library.
The draw takes place the first Monday of every month.
Tickets for the July draw are now available online or at any TBPL location.
