On Monday evening I asked a simple question via Twitter, which read “fill in the Blank:  I wish Thunder Bay would …”

The responses came quickly, including one from Twitter user @McDougallLisa who bluntly replied that the city should “fix Water Street.”

The Problem: We took a stroll down Water Street and found that @McDougallLisa was onto something. The road certainly isn’t the smoothest surface in town, and the stretch from Cumberland Street to Cumberland Street is particularly bad.

The Solution: @McDougallLisa will get her wish, the city’s proposed 2016 municipal budget does have a line item for Water Street in the 2016 to 2018 capital budget forecast.

Nearly $1.3 million is set aside for that stretch of Water Street. However, the fix isn’t coming in the next construction season. The funds for that project are earmarked for 2017.

Next step?  If @McDougallLisa, or anyone else for that matter, isn’t satisfied with a 2017 fix then their next step might be to speak with one of the two councillor’s whose wards that road travels through.
