THUNDER BAY -- The arrival of an icebreaker means there are no concerns about ice in the harbour at the Thunder Bay Port Authority.
Harbour Master Guy Jarvis says with the aid of tug boats, four ships arrived over the weekend.
“This is the beginning of the winter season so there was some ice in the river that was 10 to 12 inches thick,” Jarvis said during an interview with CKPR Radio. “ But the Risley (Icebreaker), with local tugs providing assistance, brought four ships in here over the weekend.”
Jarvis says the Sault Locks close next week and they are just taking things day by day right now.
