Being caught operating an illegal aggregate pit has cost an Alberta man a $2,000 fine.

Ministry of Natural Resources officials say Langdon, Alta.'s Mark Northcott pleaded guilty in court after a conservation officer spotted the pit during a routine patrol on Sept. 6, 2014.

After contacting Northcutt, it was discovered that between Sept. 1 and Sept. 6, 2014 he had used a backhoe to remove large amounts of aggregate from the unlicenced pit near his cottage.

The aggregate was then deposited on the shoreline and road and created a pad for his garage.

The case was heard in court in Dryden earlier this month.
