Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry Media Release

Two men have been fined a total of $3,500 for hunting offences in related cases.

Sean Goold of Kenora pleaded guilty to hunting deer without a licence, unlawfully possessing deer and having open liquor in a vehicle. He was fined $1,625.

Steven Lange of Lac du Bonnet, Manitoba, pleaded guilty to hunting deer without a licence, unlawfully transporting deer, possessing an unencased firearm at night, operating a vehicle with open liquor, and failing to notify of a change of residency. He was fined $1,875.

Court heard that on November 21, 2015, while on patrol in Melick Township, a conservation officer stopped Goold and Lange. The men had open containers of alcohol, an unencased rifle and a deer that was not tagged.

Officers determined that Goold shot the deer without a licence. Further investigation found that Lange, as a non-resident, failed to notify the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry of a change of residency. His licence was therefore void and he was hunting without a licence.

Justice of the Peace Marcel Donio heard Goold’s case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Kenora, on July 5, 2016. Justice of the Peace Danalyn MacKinnon heard Lange’s case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Kenora, on September 6, 2016.
