THUNDER BAY — A 41-year-old woman was charged with impaired driving after a Thursday night crash in the intercity area.

Thunder Bay police said officers responded to the two-vehicle collision at the corner of Memorial and Central avenues at about 11:20 p.m.

Police said the two vehicles — a small crossover SUV and a larger SUV — were both heavily damaged.

The driver of the larger SUV had multiple signs of impairment by alcohol, police said.

The woman was taken into custody and brought to the police station, where she refused to provide a breath sample.

She is charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle, impaired driving, and failure or refusal to comply with a breath demand.

The accused has been released on conditions and has a future court appearance date.

Police said four impaired driving arrests were made during a 12-hour period from Thursday night into Friday morning, which included one where a driver fell asleep at the wheel and caused his truck's horn to blare.
