A driver who is accused of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of cocaine collided with a decorative boulder on the Geraldton municipal office front lawn.

GERALDTON, Ont. - A Geraldton man is facing numerous charges after driving his vehicle across the lawn of the municipal office and colliding with a boulder.

In a release issued on Sunday, Ontario Provincial Police say officers from the Greenstone detachment responded to a single motor vehicle collision early Saturday evening. Officers were notified of the collision by Superior North EMS crews who responded to a collision in front of the Geraldton Municipal Office just before 7 p.m.

According to police, the vehicle was travelling northbound on Main Street when it drifted into the oncoming lane, drove down an embankment and through a ditch, before continuing across the lawn of the municipal office and striking a large, decorative boulder not far from the children’s playground.

The driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries and after investigating the scene, officers discovered a small bag of white powder consistent with cocaine.

A 39-year-old Geraldton man has been charged with impaired driving, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and possession of a schedule I substance.

He is expected to appear in a Geraldton court on Dec. 14, 2017.
