A Thunder Bay couple experienced an unexpected wake-up when a car drove into the front of their house early Sunday morning.
Thunder Bay Police responded to the 600 block of Prince Arthur Blvd. shortly after 5:00 a.m. Sunday morning to discover a car lodged in the front of John and Diana Palosaari’s house.
“The whole house just shook,” said Diana Palosaari. “It felt like a bomb went off. I knew right away that it must have been a car.”
Police arrested the 22-year-old driver on scene and charged him with impaired driving. A 22-year-old passenger was also charged on scene with obstructing police.
Both the car and the house experienced extensive damage.
John Palosaari said the car destroyed the front steps, punched a hole through the foundation, and pushed back a support beam.
“There was no way that car was driving out of that hole again,” he said.
The driver and passenger have since been released and are to appear in court. Their court date is set for October 18.
