THUNDER BAY — It was a busy four-hour span for Thunder Bay Police early Wednesday.

They were called to investigate three separate motor vehicle collisions, each of which resulted in impaired driving charges.

The first occurred around 4 a.m. in the 400 block of Valley Street.

Responding officers found that a vehicle had struck multiple parked vehicles before crashing into a utility pole and knocking power lines onto the roadway.

A 23-year-old woman was taken to hospital for assessment before being escorted to the police station where charges were laid.

About the same time, a similar incident was reported on the other side of town.

In the 200 block of Frederica Street West, officers found a vehicle had collided with multiple parked cars, and had also struck a house.

This time, a 21-year-old woman was taken for assessment in hospital, where she declined to provide a blood sample.

She was then charged with dangerous driving, impaired driving and refusing to comply with a demand.

Next, police were summoned to a two-vehicle collision in the area of Oliver Road and Golf Links Road, shortly after 8 a.m.

After responding officers observed signs that one of the drivers was impaired, she was taken into custody and assessed by a drug recognition expert who determined she was under the influence of multiple drugs.

The 27-year old was subsequently charged with impaired operation of a vehicle.

All three drivers involved in these incidents now have their driving privileges suspended automatically for 90 days, and each of their vehicles has been impounded for seven days.

Police said it was fortunate no one was seriously injured in any of the collisions.
