Impaired driving charges laid in two separate incidents

FORT FRANCES, Ont. – Two men are facing impaired driving charges following separate incidents in the Rainy River District.

According to an Ontario Provincial Police release, a 41-year-old of Couchiching First Nation has been charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle after officers observe the vehicle drive over the centre line on Saturday around 1:21 a.m.

As a result of the investigation, the driver’s vehicle was impounded.

Police also charged the 41-year-old with driving a vehicle with cannabis readily available.

He was released and scheduled to appear in Fort Frances Provincial Court on Nov. 16.

Later the same day, police charged a 22-year-old of Chapple with impaired operation of a motor vehicle.

Police were advised of a vehicle weaving all over the road and narrowly avoiding a collision with another oncoming vehicle around 11:14 a.m.

Officers located the driver and his vehicle was also impounded.

The 22-year-old was released and scheduled to appear in Fort Frances Provincial Court on Nov. 16, 2020.

Impaired drivers pose a significant threat on Ontario roadways. The OPP is committed to reducing impaired driving through local patrols coupled with specific initiatives such as directed patrols and R.I.D.E programs.
