Ian Kaufman is confident he’s taken Lakehead University Student Union’s top job.

Although the results won’t be officially known until next week, the 24-year-old from Oshawa, Ont., said he’s confident that he’s won by a large margin by claiming more than 50 per cent of the ballots.

Despite the apparent win, Kaufman said he has mixed feelings. He’s happy that he won but concerned that more than 90 per cent of the student body didn’t vote.

Engaging students is going to be one of Kaufman’s top priorities.

“I’d like to see LUSU out in the halls a lot more and in residents talking to students and asking them what they want to see,” the former editor of the Argus said.

“I feel like I have the experience to do the job. LUSU is a really strong organization within the university and I want to make sure the stakeholders voices are heard here.”
