Inquest set in 2017 workplace death

Gabriel McKay died on Nov. 6, 2017 of injuries sustained while working at a Thunder Bay construction site.

THUNDER BAY – An inquest into the workplace death of 36-year-old Gabriel McKay has been set for June 13.

McKay died in hospital on Nov. 6, 2017 from injuries sustained while working at a construction site in Thunder Bay, prompting a mandatory inquest under the Coroner’s Act.

The inquest is expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the death, and may make recommendations aimed at preventing future deaths.

The hearing is scheduled to last two days and will begin at 9:30 a.m. under the direction of presiding officer Dr. Steven Bodley. The inquest counsel will be Andrew Sadler.

Four witnesses are expected to be called.
