THUNDER BAY -- Wynona Fullum has received a $10,000 Christmas gift.
Fullum found out on Thursday she was the winner of the 13th annual Intercity Shopping Centre Ultimate 50-50 draw. She has purchased a ticket for years, but never won anything.
“I’m excited and in shock,” she said after hearing the news.
“It didn’t even dawn on me why they were phoning. Then I screamed in her ear. It’s a good cause. If you can afford to go to the mall then you can afford to give to Toys for Tots some money and afford those $2 tickets for the hospital.”
Fullum said that she has a daughter attending university and the money would probably go toward paying for her tuition. The rest of the money will likely go into savings.
She expects her husband will also be to surprised when he hears the news.
Heather Vita, spokeswoman for the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation, said they had 10,000 people purchase a ticket for the draw. The $10,000 the draw raised will go toward the Northern Cardiac Fund.
“A hundred per cent of the proceeds stay local,” she said.
“The money is used to purchase equipment, to fund programs and services. Some of the recent equipment we have funded included a digital stethoscope. Then community makes this possible. People want to get in on the chance to win $10,000 and I think they see the value in support our local health care.”
