SIOUX LOOKOUT, Ont. – An intoxicated teenaged girl rescued from the northern ridge of Sioux Mountain faces a charge of assault after allegedly trying to bite a police officer.

Ontario Provincial Police in a release issued on Sunday said they received a report at about 5 p.m. on Saturday of a person spotted on a dangerous section of the mountain.

After locating the 15-year-old subject and determining it was too dangerous to navigate her down the icy, narrow trail, the Sioux Lookout Fire Department and Sioux Lookout Ambulance were called in to assist.

As a precaution, the adjacent Canadian National rail line was closed to accommodate rescue efforts.

Police say they eventually managed to get the girl down safely, but during the rescue she became uncooperative and kicked one of the officers attempting to help her.

She remained combative after being taken into police custody, when she attempted to bite an officer while being placed into a detachment cell.

The Slate Falls, Ont. teen was later released from custody and is expected to appear in court on April 12. Her name cannot be released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
