THUNDER BAY --- Thunder Bay's Jack Pineau has earned an invite to Canada's national junior baseball team training camp.

Pineau was one of 38 players named to the training camp roster and a chance to join a select number of players after its conclusion in a seven-game Friendship Series against the United States.

The series is a replacement of sorts for the 2021 WSBC's under-18 Baseball World Cup, which was originally scheduled to be played this year in Sarasota and Bradenton, Fla.

Those born in 2003 will not be eligible for the 2022 world under-18s.

"We're really excited to give players a chance to participate in a Junior National Team program environment in Ajax with the possibility of representing their country in our series against the United States," said Greg Hamilton, the junior national team head coach.

"Since we haven't had the ability to operate our program in person since March 2020, our coaching staff is looking forward to evaluating players and providing a development an competitive opportunity that will pave the way for future national team and individual success."

The camp opens on Aug. 18 and concludes on Sept. 1, with daily practices beginning on Aug. 19 and games starting on Aug. 20.

Pineau in 2020 was drafted by the Ontario Hockey League's London Knights.
