DRYDEN, Ont. — Police are cautioning the public about a scam involving individuals offering to trade jewellery for cash.

In an incident in Dryden, a resident reported that two men—said to be from Dubai in the United Arab Emirates—made the proposition after approaching the person at a gas station.

The pair was driving a gold-coloured SUV, possibly with Quebec plates.

In another occurrence, a man and a female passenger in a brown/grey van asked to trade jewellery for money after explaining that they were returning to Toronto from holidays, and had no money.

Police say the jewellery is likely fake, and warn that the scam has recently been reported across Ontario. There are unconfirmed reports of similar incidents involving fake gold jewellery in Thunder Bay.

Dryden police are asking anyone with information that may assist their investigation to contact them directly or contact CrimeStoppers.
