JYSK opening Memorial Avenue location on Saturday

Scandinavian home furnishing store has more than 3,000 locations worldwide, including 61 in Canada.

THUNDER BAY -- One of the world's fastest growing Scandinavian home furnishing companies will open its doors in Thunder Bay this week.

JYSK, which has 3,000 stores worldwide, on Saturday plans to open a 25,000 square foot location in the former Winners store on Memorial Avenue, creating 25 new jobs.

It's one of four new stores the company is opening in Canada this year.

In a release, company officials say local shoppers will be able to experience easy shopping for home furnishing decor with Scandinavian designs and great weekly offers.

We have been working hard to offer a unique shopping experience," said district manager Paul Bouchard, "while providing excellent service and reliable quality, we enjoy helping customers with our product knowledge and expertise. This new store offers our customers a great layout with JYSK products set up and displayed as you would like to see them in your own home."

JYSK opened its first Canadian store in 1996 and has since grown that number to 61.

"We are excited to be celebrating 26 year in Canada and bringing Scandinavian influence to yet another Canadian market," said JYSK CEO Ludvik G. Kristjansson.
