The court proceedings for a man charged with murder will continue in April.
Jeffrey Morris Kakegamic, 32, was charged with second-degree murder and two counts of breach of probation in connection with the death of Martin Fabian Achneepineskum. Kakegamic appeared at the Ontario Court of Justice Friday morning and was remanded in custody until April 8.
Achneepineskum was stabbed to death in McIntyre Street residence on Dec. 2.
Police said the two Thunder Bay men knew each other and alcohol was a factor.
According to city police, at about 3:25 p.m. on Dec. 2 officers responded to a call about a man being attacked within a residence in the 200 block of McIntyre Street. Upon arrival officers found an injured 48-year-old male, who was taken to hospital where he died a short time later.
Also at the provincial courthouse Friday, the case for John Tsekouras, the Thunder Bay man accused of allegedly being the head of a criminal organization, continued.
The case was remanded to March 25.
Tsekouras, 38, was one of six people arrested in April through a police investigation named Project Dolphin, which also saw seven other people arrested in June 2011.
Tsekouras has been charged with being the director of a criminal organization and trafficking cocaine and marijuana.
More than $2.1 million in illicit drugs and about $500,000 in cash and property were seized through the investigation.
None of the charges against the accused have been proven in court.
