Kenora man arrested after string of break ins and thefts

(KENORA, ON)  Members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Kenora Street Crime Unit with the assistance of the OPP Forensic Identification Unit (FISU) and Kenora Scenes of Crime Officers (SOCO) have charged a 24 year old Kenora man in relation to a number of break ins.

Between January 1 and January 17, 2016 the OPP received reports of break and enters throughout the City of Kenora.  A total of 14 residential garages were broken into where the suspect stole alcohol, electronics, currency and personal items.  During the course of the investigation, police determined that the break ins appeared to have been committed by the same suspect.

On January 17, 2016 police were called to a break and enter in progress in Kenora’s north end.  A male was arrested at the scene and it was determined that he was the suspect in the previous break and enters. 

A search warrant was executed on January 18, 2016 and police recovered some of the stolen items. 

As a result of this investigation, 24 year old Kenora man has been charged with:

• Break, Enter a place and commit an indictable offence – Section 348(1) (b) CC (7 counts)
• Break, Enter a place with Intent to commit and indictable offence – Section 348(1) (a) CC (4 counts)
• Mischief under $5000.00 – Section 430(4) CC (3 counts)
• Possession of property obtained by Crime – under $5000.00 – 354(1) (a) CC
• Possession of break in instruments – Section 351(1) CC
• Resist Peace Officer – Section 129(a) CC (2 counts)
• Assault Peace Officer – Section 270(1) (a) CC
• Uttering threats – cause death – Section 264.1 (1) (a) CC
• Breach of Probation – Section 733.1 (1) CC (3 counts)

He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing on January 20, 2016 in Kenora Court.

The investigation is continuing.
