Northwestern Health Unit (NWHU) is advising people who shopped at Walmart and No Frills grocery store in Kenora between 2 and 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 4 that there is a very small chance that they may have been exposed to COVID-19.
“From the information gathered from cases the risk is assessed as very remote, but we are advising people who were in these stores during these periods so that they can monitor symptoms and decide whether they want to be tested,” said Dr Ian Gemmill, Acting Medical Officer of Health at NWHU.
Based on the assessment, NWHU does not believe that there is a significant risk to shoppers at these stores, but in an abundance of caution, the health unit is letting the public know so that people can make their own decision about getting tested. The physical distancing and infection control practices in both stores mean that any risk of transmission in minimal. NWHU has been in contact with each of the retail stores and is working to support them as needed.
Testing for COVID-19 is available for anyone who is concerned that they might have been exposed. The Kenora area Assessment Centre offers onsite and mobile testing. Call 468-9861 ext. 2483 to make an appointment. Information for other assessment centres across the region can be found on the NWHU website at www.nwhu.on.ca/covid19.
NWHU recommends that anyone who was working or shopping in Walmart or No Frills grocery between 2 and 4 p.m, Thursday, June 4 to self-monitor until June 18, and to self-isolate and to get tested for COVID-19 if they develop any symptoms.
