THUNDER BAY – Two frozen kittens were rescued last week out of a snowbank, though one will likely lose at least one limb.

A resident found the kittens in a snowbank just off Arthur Street suffering from extreme frostbite and brought them to the Thunder Bay and District Humane Society, where they were rushed to a veterinarian.

Melanie Blanchette, executive director of the Humane Society, said one of the kittens will likely lose its tail as well as a leg and an ear.

Though the Humane Society encourages a fee or donation to drop off animals, Blanchette said programming is in place to assist with financial constraints.

They are also working to generate funds to open a spay and neuter clinic to control populations and help prevent unwanted litters.

She urges people to contact the Humane Society rather than abandoning their pets.
