Local cats need some help to get a new home.
Kitty Kare Feline Rescue has been saving stray cats from being euthanized and finding them homes for more than two years. But even though the group has found homes for more than 300 cats in that time, 1200 a year are still put down.
The demand has grown to the point that the group wants to build a home for those cats that otherwise would be killed because of condition or lack of space at local shelters.
“We’ll be able to remove more cats form animal services and save more lives,” Kitty Kare’s Cindy Sakiyama said.
Thanks to Confederation College, plans for the building have already been drawn. And through the generosity of a local businessman, land has been donated. But Kitty Kare needs $200,000 to get the project built. They’re taking part in the Aviva Community Fund. From now until Oct. 15, people can vote on how the insurance company will spend $1 million on community projects throughout Canada. The more votes the group gets, the more likely Kitty Kare will be able to have its sanctuary.
““It all depends on the number of votes we receive,” Sakiyama said.
