Greenstone is pouring its support into a prosthetic leg for a rescue dog named Kristmas.
“Waterworks started as soon as I seen him,” said Luisa Wilson who has been rescuing dogs since 2011.
“I saw his foot. I put a post on my personal Facebook page saying I needed a Christmas miracle and that’s what I got. I got a miracle for him.”
Kristmas’ leg was amputated just above the break in January. The amputation is low enough to allow the husky-brindle crossbreed to become Greenstone’s first dog with a prosthetic leg.
“If it was at the femur, he wouldn’t get a prosthetic,” Wilson said.
“He’d be a tripod dog but because of him being so young, they figure that was the best viable option because he can adapt better to a prosthetic now than if he was older.”
More than half of the $3,000 needed for surgeries and prosthetics has already been raised through donations from across the region.
Kristmas’ prosthetic leg is under construction in Nova Scotia and Wilson is expecting to receive a care package of booties and baby socks from England this week.
“I’m very, very grateful for the support we’ve been given for him,” she said.
“He’s touched a lot of hearts all over the place. He’s a very, very special little boy.”
