THUNDER BAY -- Local hockey teams and police forces will be sporting a new look next week in support of Special Olympics.
Members of the Nishanawbe-Aski Police and Thunder Bay Police Service made the switch to red laces Friday. Members from the Thunder Bay Women's Midget Hockey Team also made the change.
The Be a Fan campaign, which will be celebrated on Oct. 25, is a national awareness and fundraising initiative to help support athletes with intellectual disabilities.
Thunder Bay Police Service Chief JP Levesque says police services across the country have been supporting the cause for a number of years.
Red laces can be purchased for a minimum $5 donation at Play it Again Sports and several other locations around the city.
