Lake of the Woods fire victim identified

KENORA, Ont. – A 38-year-old Winnipeg man has been identified as the person killed in last week’s fatal fire on Lake of the Woods.

Ontario Provincial Police, in a release, said Tyler Steek died in the fire, which occurred on Feb. 18 at a cottage on Kendal Inlet Road.

Police and McKenzie Clearwater Fire arrived on the scene at approximately the same time, just after 1 p.m., and found the structure fully engulfed in flames.

Steek’s body was found inside once the fire was put out.

The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office continues to investigate the incident.
