THUNDER BAY -- Lakehead University is offering its students a virtual safety kit for their mobile phones.

The school unveiled the new MobileSafety app on Tuesday, including safety toolbox comprised of a flashlight, a loud alarm and the ability to send security a photo.

Lakehead's vice president of Administration and Finance Kathy Pozihun said the AppArmor custom mobile safety app is intended to improve emergency response in a crisis and make campus security resources more accessible.

“This app allows users to easily access our walk-safe program, to quickly contact security if needed, and to use tools that can help in an emergency,” Pozihun said.

The app is available for all IOS, Android and BlackBerry devices at the AppArmor website.
