Lakehead University names interim president

Search continues for successor to Brian Stevenson
Moira-McPherson

THUNDER BAY - While the search for a successor to Brian Stevenson continues, Lakehead University's Board of Governors has named current Provost & Vice-President Moira McPherson to the post in an interim capacity.

McPherson will assume her duties on January 1, 2018, the day after Stevenson officially leaves office.

Stevenson announced his resignation earlier this year, after more than seven years as president.

Board Chair David Tamblyn said the governors decided unanimously that McPherson was the ideal candidate to lead Lakehead until the presidential search committee completes its work.

In a news release, she said she looks forward to the challenge, adding that "I have a deep respect for our senior executive team, faculty and staff, and am confident that we will accomplish a lot together during this time of change at Lakehead."

McPherson's current role will be assumed by Dean of Engineering David Barnett effective Jan. 1.
