THUNDER BAY - Lakehead University officials, who often express pride in the school's reputation for research, have a fresh reason to talk about it.
Re$earch Infosource has once again given LU the title of Canada's Research University of the Year in the undergraduate university category.
Re$earch Infosource describes itself as Canada's source of R & D intelligence, "a research, consulting, and publishing firm specializing in the areas of policy, research, business intelligence and analysis of science, technology, innovation, and the Canadian R&D ecosystem."
This is the third consecutive year the organization has awarded top place to Lakehead.
In a statement responding to the announcement, LU president Brian Stevenson said the school's success in research and innovation has been growing steadily for years. "That is due, in part, to the collaborations we enjoy with various industry, government and community partners. Because of those partnerships, Lakehead is able to offer more research opportunities to our researchers and students," he said.
The statement noted that Re$earch Infosource rates universities based on several factors including the total amount of sponsored research funding, total research income per faculty member, total number of publications, publication intensity and publication impact.
Re$earch Infosource CEO Ron Freedman called Lakehead's showing over the past three years impressive, saying the school is "demonstrating a consistently high level of research performance among its undergraduate university peers."
