THUNDER BAY — It was when she attended a university fair in Toronto that Brianna Knox first became familiar with Lakehead University.

The recent high school graduate from London, Ontario is now more grateful than ever for having made that connection.

She recently learned that her first-year tuition of about $6,000 will be completely paid for by the university.

An entrance scholarship will also cover ancillary fees of almost $1,300.

Knox plans to pursue a degree in psychology.

Her name was drawn from among students who participated in Lakehead's first-year-free-tuition draw.

Students were required to register and attend virtual open houses, or participate in other eligible domestic recruitment webinars or meetings with LU recruiters.

"It shocked me...I was just blown away," Knox said after receiving the good news in a phone call from Thunder Bay.

She said she went to the university fair with a list of schools that she planned to consider, "but when we went to the fair and I saw the Lakehead presentation, the people there were so nice...I just felt something click."

"It just seemed right," Knox said, describing Lakehead as a small school that's community-oriented and "in a really cool city."

She previously visited the Thunder Bay area while camping with her family.
