Large police presence on Bethune Street (UPDATED)

Police ask the public to stay out of the area

THUNDER BAY - Members of the Thunder Bay Police emergency task unit have a residence surrounded on the 100 block of Bethune Street.

Police have weapons drawn and are demanding that occupants within the building exit with their hands up.

At 5:14 p.m. a large bang was heard echoing throughout the south-side neighbourhood.

The Thunder Bay Police are requesting the assistance of the public to stay out of the area.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.

UPDATE: Police say that the large Police presence in the area of Bethune street has ended and people can return to the area.

UPDATE 2: Thunder Bay Police say that Jamel Anthony EVANS a 29-year-old Toronto man was taken into custody.

Evans was wanted on warrants by the Ontario Provincial Police in Norfolk County and appeared in bail court on June 26 in Thunder Bay

The investigation is on-going.
