THUNDER BAY — A drop in calls was experienced by the Thunder Bay OPP last week.

Officers at the Thunder Bay detachment received 289 calls for the week of May 12 to 18, down almost 25 per cent from the week of April 12, the most recent data provided by the OPP. Complete data was unavailable for the period between April 28 to May 11, due to staff availability.

Officers laid 425 charges during this time; 408 were road-related and 17 were criminal charges.

A majority incidents were eTickets at 131, however there were a number of charges laid under the Highway Traffic Act.

The OPP is reminding the public about its online reporting system, citizen self reporting, which can be used as an alternative to having an officer attend a scene for minor incidents.

These numbers are not representative of police activity in the city at large, as the Thunder Bay Police Service has jurisdiction over the municipality itself and tracks calls for service separately.
