THUNDER BAY — Provincial police in Thunder Bay noted an increase in calls during their last reporting week.

Between May 19 and 25, there was a total of 358 reported incidents in Thunder Bay, an increase of almost 24 per cent when compared to the week before

Notably, 196 of the incidents reported were for eTickets, with traffic complaints and property checks rounding out the top three categories.

There was a large drop in charges laid for Highway Traffic Act incidents compared to the previous week when there were 408 were road-related charges.

Officers laid 174 charges in total; 159 were road-related and 15 were criminal charges.

The OPP is reminding the public about its online reporting system, citizen self-reporting, which can be used as an alternative to having an officer attend a scene for minor incidents.

These numbers are not representative of police activity in the city at large, as the Thunder Bay Police Service has jurisdiction over the municipality itself and tracks calls for service separately.
