THUNDER BAY — An almost 20 per cent increase in calls for OPP services was logged in the area during the most recent reporting period.

There were 426 calls for service reported by Thunder Bay OPP during the week of May 26 to June 1 compared to the week before.

More than half of the incidents were for e-tickets, with traffic complaints and traffic hazard calls at a distant second and third respectively.

There was a significant uptick when it comes to charges laid by OPP in and around the city, with 253 charges being laid compared to 174 in the previous period.

The provincial police logged 40 criminal charges and 213 Highway Traffic Act violations.

The OPP is reminding the public about its online reporting system, which allows for citizen self-reporting as an alternative to having an officer attend a scene for minor incidents.

These numbers are not representative of police activity in the city at large, as the Thunder Bay Police Service has jurisdiction over the municipality itself and tracks calls for service separately.
