Lauzon, Vaugeois to contest NDP nomination in TB-Superior North

Riding will choose its 2018 provincial election candidate on Sunday at the Castlegreen Community Centre.

THUNDER BAY -- A pair of political hopefuls has put their names forward in hopes of securing the NDP nomination in Thunder Bay-Superior North ahead of Sunday's nomination meeting.

Alain Lauzon, a French Separate School Board Trustee, and Lise Vaugeois, an adjunct professor at Lakehead University and a small business owner have declared their candidacies.

Registration for the nomination meeting, scheduled for the Castlegreen Community Centre, begins at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, with voting slated to start at 7 p.m.

Michael Mantha, MPP for Algoma-Manitoulin and the party's northern development and mines critic, is expected to speak.

Coun. Andrew Foulds, the party's nominee in 2014, declined to put his name forward for the 2018 provinicial election, expected to be held next spring. Vaugeois also challenged Foulds four years ago.

Incumbent Michael Gravelle has stated he plans to run again for the Liberals in 2018, while Derek Parks is expected to get the nod for the Conservatives.
