Law enforcement agencies team up to help the RFDA

Thunder Bay Police Services and Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service joined forces for Stuff a Cruiser.

THUNDER BAY — Law enforcement agencies joined forces to fill a cruiser with food donations for the Regional Food Distribution Association (RFDA) last weekend.

The Thunder Bay Police Service and the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service partnered for the Stuff-a-Cruiser event held outside the Superstore. The event also coincided with National Police Week.

OPP Sgt. Brittany Bembeneck, the Northwest Region's engagement and mobilization coordinator, shared her enthusiasm about the event.

“This week we're celebrating National Police Week. A good way to celebrate is to partner with some of our policing organizations and support a great cause like the RFDA, so we're collecting donations for a Stuff-a-Cruiser event,” she said.

The initiative took place outside the Real Canadian Superstore, inviting residents to contribute non-perishable food items to fill police vehicles, all of which will go to the RFDA to assist local families and individuals facing food insecurity.

Officers from the Thunder Bay Police Services were also on-site engaging with shoppers, collecting donations, and giving children a close-up look at police cruisers.

“It's so important for us to give back to our communities for all the great things that they do," Bembeneck said. "And the great work that the RFDA does in providing foods in all the all the communities that we police in, and we know that there are food shortages, so we very much appreciate it...”

Const. Mason Morriseau, a recruiter with the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service, said it feels great to be to assist with the OPP.

"We're excited to be a part of giving back to the community and giving back to the RFDA and to represent the people of the Nishnawbe Nation and the police service. I'm definitely grateful to be here and to be invited."
