The law license of Mason Mandrake Millar has been suspended.

At a Wednesday afternoon hearing in Toronto, the Law Society Tribunal granted a motion by the Law Society of Upper Canada to issue an interlocutory license suspension against the local lawyer.

The motion stated Millar, who earlier this year pleaded guilty to multiple charges including assault, uttering threats, mischief and breach of a recognizance in connection with a domestic violence incident, engaged in unbecoming conduct and does not currently have the capacity to meet his professional obligations.

Millar originally received a three-month conditional sentence but violated those terms and is spending the rest of the sentence in custody, where he will remain until Jan. 4.

The motion argued Millar appears to suffer from alcoholism “to a degree that calls into question his capacity to meet his professional obligations” and that there are “reasonable grounds to believe there is a significant risk of harm to members of the public and/or the public interest in the administration of justice if an order is not made” to suspend his license.
