‘Let’s go’: Road Angels of Thunder Bay ride for mothers

The group of all lady motorcycle riders delivered around 50 flowers to retired residents for Mother’s Day.

THUNDER BAY — The revving of engines and laughter resounded with the arrival of the Road Angels of Thunder Bay outside the Chartwell Isabella Retirement Residence on Sunday.

The group of all lady motorcycle riders visited the residence to deliver around 50 flowers to retired residents for Mother’s Day.

“I’d just like to say happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers out there and let’s go,” said Mandy Craig, the founder of the Road Angels.

The group’s third annual ride began at the Tim Hortons on Hawker Road, where they departed for a roughly 10-minute drive up Arthur Street before turning onto Franklin Street South and then Isabella Street East to meet, mingle and socialize with the residents.

“The residents… just love us,” said Craig.

“They’re waiting outside in the patio excited, for us to show up. They like to hop on the motorcycles and then just have a blast.”

Craig said the flowers for the event were sponsored by Switzer Floral Design and provided by donation.

“I actually pick up the flowers and the ladies contribute whatever they can for donation,” said Craig.

“And I, in turn, turn that back to the owner of the floral design as a thank you for her contribution of flowers.”

She added that she also likes to bring awareness to female riders and all the support they’re looking for in the community, as well as get together, have fun and ride for the friendship of sisterhood.

“It’s a beautiful day today, so we’re probably going to get on the bikes and go for a short ride. (It) could take us out (Ontario Highway) 130, nice country scenic look, so looking forward to that,” said Craig.

For those looking to get involved, Craig said the Road Angels of Thunder Bay has a private group on Facebook that is invite-only and she can also be reached via email.

“We’re always looking for anyone: all age groups, all styles of bikes, all confident levels and skills can join and just get out and have fun,” said Craig.
