So Andre Gagne believes that the reaction to the plan to scan and retain private information at LCBO stores is a merely vague, ideological concern. Protection of privacy is difficult enough in this age where technological advances outpace our ability to safeguard our private information, but to expect customers to just hand it over as they enter a store is appalling.
My ideological concern was so focused by the proposed (now scrapped) plan that I was planning to react by refusing to enter LCBO stores. The underlying racism that prompted the targeting of stores in northwestern Ontario is difficult to prove but hard to ignore.
Judging by the speed at which the government put the kibosh on the plan, I expect that other concerned citizens voiced their ideological concerns in a highly focused way as well.
