THUNDER BAY - Thunder Bay Police Chief J.P. Levesque will head to trial on Dec. 4 to face obstruction of justice charges.

Earlier this month Levesque waived his right to a preliminary hearing, with his lawyer saying it is in everyone's best interest to move the matter forward as quickly as possible.

This past May Levesque was charged by Ontario Provincial Police with breach of trust and obstruction of justice following a five-month investigation.

Court records revealed that the charges are based on allegations Levesque disclosed confidential information related to Thunder Bay mayor Keith Hobbs last December.

Levesque has been on medical leave since last May and was placed on administrative suspension by the Thunder Bay Police Services Board.

The trial is expected to last two weeks.
