THUNDER BAY -- Health Canada is suspending the use of two brands of a seasonal flu vaccine, which have been administered here in the city.

Several European countries spotted small clumps of virus particles found in vials of Agriful and Fluad vaccines.

There is no evidence of any risk associated with the Influenza vaccines produced by Novartis Vaccines and Diagnostics, but Health Canada is taking a precautionary step to suspend distribution until a full review of the situation is complete.

In Thunder Bay a limited amount of these two vaccines were administered.

A spokesperson from the Thunder Bay and District Health Unit says the public shouldn't be concerned and this will have no effect on the flu clinics in the city, but the health unit will continue to take precautions.

To this date there have been no reports of serious or unexpected adverse reactions related to Agriflu or Fluad vaccines reported in Canada.

But all health providers in the city have been asked to stop administering these brands at their flu clinics and long-term care homes until further notice.
