THUNDER BAY -- The provincial government has to start spending again.
That's what a group of more than 30 people were rallying for outside of the Valhalla Inn as an all-party finance committee heard presentations Wednesday afternoon. Thunder Bay Health coalition co-chair Jules Tupker said the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre hasn't seen an increase in funding for four years while costs continue to increase.
"They're not getting funding from the government to meet those costs," Tupker said.
The coalition is concerned that cuts to staff or services at the hospital are inevitable unless more funding comes along.
"They just can't sustain the services that they need to sustain for the citizens and we're telling the government that they have to do something about that," he said.
Ontario Federation of Labour secretary treasurer Patty Coates said she speaks of all workers who say that the government has to start listening.
"We're tired of the austerity cuts and it's time we have the Ontario we deserve and the Ontario that we want," she said.
