THUNDER BAY -- While gas prices fall across the province local residents are still waiting for relief at the pumps.

Figures from GasBuddy.com show the average gas prices in Thunder Bay on Monday afternoon ranging from between $1.18 to $1.21 per litre. That’s considerably more than both the provincial and national averages, which are around $1.10 per litre.

“We’re paying 20 cents too much,” one driver who was filling up at a Red River Road gas bar told Thunder Bay Television. “We’re getting ripped off.”

The falling prices are a result of global oil prices plunging about 35 per cent since the summer, with the rate of a barrel down to less than US$70

To contrast the prices in the city, the website showed prices in Kenora at about $1.16 per litre. That price is comparable in Sudbury.

It dips even further in some of the province’s biggest markets. In Toronto most gas bars had prices all under $1.10 and in Ottawa prices were mostly all under $1.04 per litre.

The lowest prices are on the Fort William First Nation with five stations selling for less than 107 cents per litre, with the lowest at 103.7.

The gas prices get even lower as you head outside of the province. Out west, the average regular gas price for regular fuel was south of a dollar-a-litre in Edmonton, Winnipeg and Calgary. Prices in those cities were reported at 93.7-, 98.8-, and 99.8-cents-a-litre respectively as of Monday afternoon.

Meanwhile, motorists in Quebec might be able to sympathize with local drivers. In that province, the average gas prices are listed at $1.21-a-litre for regular fuel, which is down 2.2 cents from the day before.
