Local sailors nab 1st place finishes in two classes at Bayfield Regatta

After four days of shifting winds and ever-changing courses, the Bayfield Regatta concluded with standout performances across the fleets. None more dominant than PennyCress in D-Fleet.

BAYFIELD, Wis.— After four days of shifting winds and ever-changing courses, the Bayfield Regatta concluded with standout performances from Thunder Bay sailboats.

None more dominant than PennyCress in D-Fleet. Skippered by David Clark, PennyCress delivered a commanding performance, securing a clean sweep with four consecutive first-place finishes. The boat proved untouchable throughout the series, setting a high bar for competitors.

In C-Fleet, Northern Harrier, captained by Chris Wells, claimed top honours after a fiercely competitive contest. The team climbed the leaderboard with back-to-back second-place finishes, then surged ahead with two consecutive wins in the final days. Their consistency under pressure sealed the overall fleet victory.

Bobsled, led by Bob Vander Ploeg, was a strong contender from start to finish. With finishes of 1st, 3rd, and two 2nd places, they secured a well-earned second overall in C-Fleet.

Further down the standings, GongShow sailed to a 6th-place finish, capping off a hard-fought regatta.

As the final horn fades, Thunder Bay crews are no doubt still celebrating as they sail homeward.
