SIOUX LOOKOUT -- A tourist lodge near this Northern Ontario community has been fined $3,000 for selling angler-caught fish to customers.
Representatives of the Old Post and Village Inc., pleaded guilty to listing fish on a menu and charging for fish without authorization.
A court heard that on Sept. 8, 2010, the Old Post and Village Inc. Served angler-caught walleye to 10 guests who paid for the meal.
The guests worked for the Ministry of Natural Resources.
An investigation eventually revealed that the lodge had listed the fish as "freshly caught Lake St. Joseph walleye" on its online menu.
The MNR is now reminding the public that it is against the law in Ontario to list recreationally caught fish on a menu and to charge for serving that fish without permission.
